STARLORE is a 56-card deck of revived and remastered engraved illustrations from historical artwork that is over 300 years old. It features over 60 Constellations of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and their mythological and symbolic figures aligned with playing card suits and Tarot Minor Arcana, such as Cassiopeia, Hercules, Orion, Draco, Ursa Major, and many more, including the 12 constellations of the Zodiac that mark out the path that the Sun appears to take through the year: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpius, Sagittarius, Capricornus, Aquarius, and Pisces.
If you are curious about the myths and stories of the celestial stars scattered across the night sky, then this deck is for you! The deck of cards comes with a mini-booklet with standard Tarot keywords and numerology. The Companion Guidebook is recommended for the star lore constellation interpretations and will help beginners learn about the constellations and will also be a gem for those seasoned in the art as an oracular divination tool. The Companion Guidebook's Introduction is written by professional Astrologer Sasha Ravitch. STARLORE Astronomical Tarot invites a playful exploration and dynamic interplay between playing card suits, numerology, and Tarot Minor Arcana as an excellent way to access the wisdom and revelations of the stars and Zodiac providing insight along your life’s path, connecting you to the guidance of spirit via the wisdom of the ancients and the seen and unseen worlds! Because this was originally a Playing Cards deck, there is no Major Arcana, yet the 56 cards are aligned with Tarot Minor Arcana archetypes and work perfectly as cartomancy divinatory readings.
Keeping to the integrity of John Lenthall's ASTRONOMICAL PLAYING CARDS published in London in 1717, in 2022 I brought the archived deck files out from obscurity into Photoshop to restore them to contemporary high-quality. Each card was digitally optimized, repairing damages to the artwork and fixing any shadowed and blurred areas, cleaning up digital noise, and enhancing the line quality and sharpness of the illustrations. I then created 4 additional cards: the four “Knights” to align with the Tarot system (because they are not included as a court card in standard playing card decks). I then formatted the now 56 cards to the larger Tarot size, aligning each with the French-suited system of Clubs, Hearts, Spades, and Diamonds with the Tarot MINOR ARCANA Suits of Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. To finish, the cards were spot-colorized to make them more visually delightful, which also helps the stars to stand out, turning an antique poker deck into a contemporary Tarot experience.
